Improve FUEL MILEAGE by adding Acetone to your tank.
An article that I just read says that adding a small amount of Acetone to your fuel works REALLY well. Emphatically!!!
What if anything can pouring some Acetone into your fuel tank do for your vehicle's Fuel Mileage?
That was MY question and I found some interesting answers... Read on...
First things first! You have to use the BEST Acetone or it will have NO positive effect... and you might observe a Negative effect if you use low grade Acetone. The warning is: Do Not buy your Acetone from drug stores. Why? The article's author said that he'd tried some from a drug store and the fuel mileage actually went DOWN. He also stated that when he'd used up all that fuel and re-filled the tank, his fuel mileage came back up to about where it had been before.
So, that begs the question... Where to get the GOOD stuff? And what is it? What NAME???
If you want improved mileage you must add Reagent Grade Acetone or Technical Grade Acetone to your tank. You can buy it from a chemical supply house or you can go to Home Depot and buy Xylene.
The Second Question is... How much to use? Research reveals that two to three (2-3) ounces of Acetone to 10 gallons of gasoline usually works best AND two (2) ounces of Acetone to 10 gallons of diesel fuel works wonders. More is not necessarily better so adding an "overdose" will NOT result in higher mileage!
You should carefully add 2 to 3 ounces to every ten (10) gallons of fuel you add to your tank.
I personally use 2.5 ounces per 10 gallons and I get better mileage. Results vary with engine age and condition... and with driving styles! Acetone will NOT repair a worn out engine!
CAUTION!!! BE EXTREMELY CAREFUL WHEN POURING ACETONE INTO THE FUEL TANK...
AS IT WILL REMOVE YOUR CAR or TRUCK's PAINT.
It is cautioned that you should hold a damp rag or cloth underneath the filler to catch any and all drips. OK??? Improve your mileage but please, DO NOT trash your PAINT!
I use a FUNNEL and a GLASS MEASURE to add Acetone to my tank.
Now... How does this work? Acetone improves the vaporization of your fuel and helps improve the burning of it as the piston comes up on the compression stroke. It generates a very smooth and complete burn which results in improved power and less wasted fuel... AND the result is LESS bad stuff out your exhaust pipe in the form of emissions!
Acetone is a slow burning chemical and this allows it to survive the heat of combustion for a very long time and while surviving... the fuel droplets are broken apart and vaporized which is a key to improving your fuel mileage. This gives you that smooth and complete burn of your fuel and improved mileage.
Now you're probably wondering how much is this going to cost me? Would you believe less than 25 cents per ounce? That's a typical price. My personal shopping results are as follows: One gallon of Xylene, with sales tax, was $14.95 which (doing the math: 1 Gallon = 3.7854 Liters and 1 Liter = 34 fluid ounces) results in 128.7 fluid ounces of Acetone. With my car's 10 gallon tank, that's 51.5 fill-up's and the per ounce price is just under 12 cents per ounce!
For a moment, lets get back to that CAUTION warning a few paragraphs pack... I would suggest that you purchase a GLASS measure and a good LONG NECK funnel to use in adding Acetone to your tank. Personally, I've had good results and so far... I haven't gotten any on my paint. That is something that you MUST be careful with... Remember the damp cloth below the filler that they mentioned above??? Don't neglect to do that! You'll regret getting Acetone on your paint! And don't say we didn't warn you... as we HAVE!!! Repeatedly!
O.K. You obviously wouldn't have read this far if you were not interested in improving your mileage. What else can you do to help with improving your mileage???
1. How old are your spark plugs? They are the key to BURNING the fuel! Worn out plugs are not as effective as new ones! This is a rather inexpensive improvement that you can make. So, what plugs should you use? Your vehicle's manufacturer recommends whatever plug that gets THEM the most money in THEIR pocket! Yes, they join venture with other manufacturers and get a kick-back for recommending the other guy's product! So, it's your vehicle... why not use the BEST parts in it? My personal choice is to go with BOSCH Platinum Plus or NGK V-Power plugs. I've used the Bosch Platinum Plus for several years now and I've NEVER had to adjust one or replace it because it wore out or fouled. That is not the results I observed with the conventional spark plugs that came in the car as an OEM part.
Visit the BOSCH website by clicking HERE or visit the NGK website by clicking HERE.
2. Are you using the best OIL and Oil Filters in your car or truck? If you're not using a TOP GRADE Synthetic lubricant and matching filter, you're not getting ALL the mileage and power from your engine that you can. FACT! Switch to AMSOIL Synthetics and AMSOIL EA filters and you'll notice an improved level of performance. Many of my customers write or email me and declare that as soon as they switched to AMSOIL products they noticed a marked improvement in power and mileage. Why don't you try it? 3. How long has it been since your Oxygen Sensor was checked? Most manufacturers recommend replacing it every 60,000 miles. My car had over 200,000 miles on it before I learned that the Oxygen Sensor should be replaced regularly to do the best job for me! While you're at the Bosch website (mentioned above) look up the proper replacement Oxygen Sensor for YOUR ride! It could make a Positive Difference for you.
You hear it all the time and here's another reminder... YOU can save on fuel if you'll simply leave a few minutes earlier... and drive more SLOWLY. Yes, slowing down saves fuel. Also, driving at a consistent speed helps so much (consistently slow is best). And DO NOT rest your "other foot" on the brake pedal. If you do... you're wasting precious gasoline or diesel to make up for the drag your brakes create... and you're wearing out your expensive brake parts faster than you would otherwise. Have you priced a brake job recently? Now is that foot off the brake?
Last but not least, make sure you have enough air in your tires. Some users indicate that adding a LITTLE more air (5 pounds or so) to your tires helps to reduce the rolling resistance and thus helps improve mileage. Just don't let them get BELOW the recommended pressure. You can usually find the recommended pressure on the door post of the driver's side of your car and there is always a baseline pressure stamped on the sidewall of the tire.
